. Are You A Risk Taker?
What sounds risky to you?
- Bungee jumping?
- Rock climbing?
- Swimming with sharks?
What about public speaking?
Is publishing a book with your name as the
author risky?
If you look at the list above some might feel
riskier than others. In fact most people would
rather swim with sharks or go bungee jumping
than speak in public. Of course, no one ever
died from public speaking but it conjures up
the same death defying fears.
Entrepreneurs seem to have a unique ability to
take more risk than others. They’re able to do
two things successfully:
- Assess actual risk
- Take calculated risk
Assess Actual Risk
Assessing the risk means taking a look at what
can actually happen. They ask themselves...
“What’s the worst that could happen?”
They answer the question to the best of their
ability and then they decide whether it’s a
good decision.
Taking Calculated Risk
Many people can get through this assessment
process well enough. However, they get stopped
up when it comes to actually taking the risk.
Fear and doubts get in the way. Even when they
know that the worst case scenario isn’t that
bad, they still stop short of taking risk.
You can improve your ability and willingness
to take calculated risk by developing your
entrepreneurial mindset.
Embrace your vision, passion, and positive
attitude and you’ll be one huge step closer
to being a smart risk taker.
